Jim Etter Austin Reams
Jim Etter, a retired reporter for The Daily Oklahoman, is a writer of what he calls “history and tall tales.” His latest book, “WHAT A DIRTY SHAME! 100 Unforgettable Place Names of Oklahoma,” he wrote with his mind on the state’s centennial.

Critique Group Workshop
The "Writers of the Purple Page," a closed critique group in existence for many years, including Mary Ann West (Short Story and Juvenile), Catherine "Katey" Johnson (Screenwriting and Haiku), Bill Walker (Essay and more), Barbara Shepherd (Poetry and novel), Janis Contway (Playwriting), Richard Mullins (the value of critique groups) and others spoke on the art and craft of winning writing contests and showed examples of their writing and the proper format in which to submit your entries.

Poet's Workshop
Vivian R. Stewart
Stewart said, "More important than knowledge of rules for writing poems is awareness of the "4 V's" of a Poet's Needs: Vision, Vitality, Voice, and Validation."
She emphasized the four points that a poet must use and supplied a handout.
Stewart was the President of The Poetry Society of Oklahoma, 1998.

Writing and the police mystique
Jerry VanCook
VanCook, author of forty Don Pendleton's Mack Bolan action-adventure novel series, highlighted building strong characters.
Two other books by VanCook, Going Undercover and Real World Self-Defense, draws on his vast experience in that field.

Dr. Terry Phelps
Professor of English and Director of the Learning Enhancement Center at Oklahoma City University since 1983, started his writing career at age eighteen when he became sports editor for the Durant Daily Democrat in Durant, Oklahoma, while attending school at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
His current projects include two Broadway-style musicals, two screen plays, and a grammar book. He conducts in-service workshops for teachers and the Oklahoma Educators Association, and has presented writing seminars for banks, law firms, and various corporations and other groups. He is Chair of the Board of Governors of the Oklahoma Writing Project, for which he also conducts writing seminars for teachers and students. For the OWP he travels to Washington, D.C., each year to the National Writing Project annual conference, including visits with the Oklahoma delegation in Congress. He has written numerous songs and performs weekly at Kamp's restaurant and Grateful Bean restaurant.

Dr. Andrew Horton
OU Director of Film Studies, is the Jeanne H. Smith Professor of Film and Video Studies University of Oklahoma. An Award winning screenwriter, and the author of eighteen books on film, screenwriting and cultural studies. His films include Brad Pitt's first feature film, DARK SIDE OF THE SUN and much awarded SOMETHING IN BETWEEN.
Dr. Horton conducts screenwriting workshops around the world.

Professor Givan, Ph. D., University of Central Oklahoma, gave a lively illustrated talk on short stories.
