General Contest Rules
Note: To avoid disqualification, please read and carefully follow these rules.

1. Only members of Oklahoma City Writers, Inc. may enter the
contest.
If entries are co-authored, both authors must be members of Oklahoma City Writers, Inc. Dues must be current at the time of entry.
2. You may enter only one unpublished, "editor ready" manuscript per category. Manuscripts must be submitted to the appropriate category and may not be entered in more than one category. Any manuscript that has won a cash prize (1st, 2nd or 3rd place) in any previous Oklahoma City Writers, Inc. contest may not be entered again. NOTE: After receiving the judges' comments, we encourage all entrants to consider the comments for revision and then send the manuscript to the Oklahoma Writers Federation, Inc. (OWFI) competition, and/or market the revised manuscript for publication. 3. The fee for submitting entries to the Oklahoma City Writers, Inc. annual contest is $5 for one entry or $10 for two or more entries. Make the check or money order payable to Oklahoma City Writers, Inc. and include it in the envelope with your entries. Cash will not be accepted for entry fees. 4. Entries must be "editor ready." Proper manuscript format is very important. For reference on format, consult one of the many books on manuscript formatting. The manuscript must be typed and double-spaced on one side of 8 1/2 x 11-inch white paper. Use pica type or an easy-to-read 12-point font, such as Times Roman or Courier, which should result in approximately 250 words per page (about 25 lines). Poetry may be single-spaced. Film or play scripts should follow industry standard format. Use a paper clip to hold the pages together (no staples). 5. A separate cover sheet may be printed from this site and attached to the front of each entry. 6. Place entries flat (not folded) in a 9 X 12-inch or larger envelope along with a 9 X 12-inch self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) with enough postage to return the manuscript to the author. If you intend to pick up your manuscript at the NOVEMBER meeting, write "Will pick up at meeting" on the upper right corner of the outer envelope in lieu of including the SASE envelope. Any manuscript not picked up will be destroyed. 7. The deadline for submission is the September meeting. Mailed manuscripts must be postmarked by midnight of the September 18, 2010 meeting. Winners are announced at the November meeting. more contest information. |
